WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court has refused without comment to consider a Placer County citizens group's challenge of Thunder Valley Casino. Citizens for Safer Communities had sought the court's review after decisions by a federal appeals court and a district judge to dismiss the lawsuit.

The cities of Roseville and Rocklin had been a part of the lawsuit to close the casino, alleging the federal government failed to consider a casino's impact on surrounding communities when it granted reservation status to the site. But the cities dropped out of the lawsuit late last year. The citizens group continued the action.

Celia Nunez, a group spokeswoman, said Tuesday she was unaware of the court decision and wanted to discuss it with her group before commenting.

The United Auburn Indian Community opened the casino in June.
