Nonprofit Grant Program

Application Deadlines

The UAIC Nonprofit Grant Program includes two funding cycles.  Grant applications are accepted in the Spring and Fall of each year.  Applications for the Spring 2024 funding cycle are currently open.  The application deadline is September 15, 2024.

To be eligible for a grant, an organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been in operation for at least three years.  Nonprofits that provide services in Placer County or Nevada County are given priority in grant consideration, but nonprofits that work outside those two counties are eligible if they provide services within the Greater Sacramento Region and can show that those services have a significant impact on the surrounding community.

The following organizations are ineligible for grant funding through the Program:

  • Service clubs and organizations
  • Endowments and community funds
  • Umbrella or pass-through agencies
  • Organizations that discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Religious organizations UNLESS they are seeking support for a program or project that addresses the needs of the wider community without regard to religious beliefs in which case they are eligible to receive a grant
  • Organizations that have received, or intend to seek, funding from the Thunder Valley Casino Resort within the same calendar year

Organizations can only receive grant funding once per calendar year.  Unsuccessful Spring applicants are welcome to resubmit in the Fall.

Applications are judged on merit.  Funding decisions are based on an evaluation of the application and supporting materials, the likely impact of the program or project for which funding is sought, and a site visit with the requesting organization.

Grants are awarded for a single year in amounts between $1,000 and $10,000 based on the applicant’s need and the availability of funding.  Requests for long-term or ongoing funding will not be considered.

Grants must be used for program expenses or capital projects.  Funding will not be provided for:

  • Loans or debt retirement
  • Deficits or retroactive funding
  • Advertising expenses or promotional sponsorships
  • Religious-based activities
  • Political or legislative causes
  • Administrative expenses (i.e., overhead expenses)
  • Fundraising expenses

Organizations that receive grants may be required to provide a follow-up report describing the results of the program or project for which funding was provided.  By accepting funding through the UAIC Nonprofit Grant Program, the organization gives UAIC permission to use information about the funded program or project in its internal and external communications.
